SHOW US YOUR TONGUE PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

As has been shown repeatedly on this blog (here, here, and here for example), greyhounds can get some serious tongue action. Stop that right now, take you mind out of the gutter. I’m talking about how those babies escape from the confines of the mouth with a fairly common regularity. We in the greyhound world call it Escaped Tongue Syndrome, ETS for short. ETS can and does seem to be rampant while the greys are running during playdate. It is also quite prevalent when they are sleeping. Though those episodes tend to be mini ETS events, with just the tiniest bit of the tongue peeking out. When one take lots of photos, one tends to get those ETS shots frequently, often by accident (when they're running), but commonly planned (when they're sleeping) because it is darned funny.

So you can just imaging my joy when I learned Twinkie over at the Twinkie Tiny Dog blog is hosting a “Show Us Your Tongue” photography contest. I was all over that. Initially, I submitted just a photo of Breeze (#108) then realized I couldn’t stop there – the greyhounds must be represented! So Willow and Drusilla will also be gracing the pages of Twinkie’s blog. What does this have to do with you, my loyal readers? Please go on over to Twinkie's blog and vote for one (or all) of the girls, you can vote up to 5 times. It’s for the hounds, they can use the affirmation that it is OK to suffer ETS and, in fact, be recognized for it.

Are you kidding? I am SO glad you entered two more tongue contestants. You also sent me the photos by email and the names... what more could a teacup chihuahua ask for?

Thank you for solving the mystery behind the greyhounds penchant for tongue action! I believe your diagnosis is correct...ETS it is! Loved the photo! Very funny!
